In less than a week’s time we are going to bid year 2007 farewell. But, before that let’s check out Forbes.com’s The Web Celeb 25 which lists the most popular web celebrities for 2007. On top of the list is none other than gossip blogger with a poison “pen”, Perez Hilton.

Perez hilton

Perez’s blog is hugely popular. His posts are usually delivered with an irreverent, tongue-in-cheek and sometimes even cruel slant. He often posts tabloid photographs over which he has added his own rude captions or “doodles”. This make other celebrities hate and love him at the same time! Haha!

On the second spot is Michael Arrington of techcrunch.com.

PMichael Arrington

I am sure Michael’s blog, TechCrunch needs no further introduction. The blog profiles and reviews Internet entrepreneurs, products and services. It’s so popular that a mere mention of a company on its pages can make or break a start-up!

Below are the rest of the web celebrities. See how many of them you can recognize.

This is Forbes.com’s second edition of the list. Last year’s top spot holder, YouTube star LonelyGirl15 is no longer in the list.

LonelyGirl15

While many of them in the list are tech bloggers (Malaysia has two popular tech bloggers too, one is Liucf and another is upcoming tech blogger you-know-who lar) who are tech savvy, but there are just some who become popular unexpectedly. One of them is a stay-at-home-mom who resides in Salt Lake City, Utah.

To generate the ranking, Forbes collected a candidate list of 200 Web celebrities and ranked them according to various areas which include web references as calculated by Google, traffic ranking of their home page as calculated by Alexa, Technorati rank of their primary Web site or blog, and TV/radio mentions and press clips compiled from Factiva. On top of that, bonus points are given if they regularly published their own videoblog or podcast.

Not surprisingly, all these web celebrities make a decent amount of money from their websites and blogs. Almost all of them can be found in the Top earning bloggers list.

Now, shall we have a ranking for Malaysian web celebrities? Where would Kitkat stand? 🙂
