Are you getting tired of downloading new instant messenger releases every now and then and facing problems installing them on your computer? Well worry no more as Yahoo has just launched a new Web based messenger which you can access from anywhere with just a browser. No need to download hugh installation files, no need to go through the trouble installing it… it’s so much more convenient!

Yahoo web messenger

This web based version of Yahoo Messenger was built using Adobe’s Flex 2 on top of Flash Player 9.
What’s best is that it also supports adding MSN Live Messenger contacts just like a normal Yahoo Messenger does. So, you can now chat with your MSN Messenger friends without leaving your favorite Yahoo Messenger! I guess we don’t need Pidgin anymore? … maybe not yet if you have lots of contacts from different systems, because Pidgin supports them all which include AIM, ICQ, Jabber/XMPP, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, QQ… the list is too long and frankly most of them I have not even heard of.

Yahoo senior vice president of communications Brad Garlinghouse said, “This really has great implications for the road warriors out there who are on the go. People have become quite accustomed to a non-stop accessible life.”

“The Internet is evolving from a static experience where a web page is just a web page to where Web pages behave more like traditional desktop computer applications,” Garlinghouse added.

Now, with Yahoo Web Messenger we can really chat with anyone, anywhere and anytime! Excuse me… I have chicks waiting for me on Yahoo Web Messenger!

Ops, before I forgot, the URL to access this baby is http://webmessenger.yahoo.com or simply http://web.im.
